The release is live on the same server as before: Tangible.se.
For this release we have filmed a short video showing you an example of a possible scenario for our prototype.
These are the new features in this release:
- Support for the new PeerConnection (make sure you are using at least Chrome 23). It is no longer necessary to enable a flag to use the video chat.
- More features in the shared workspace.
- Support for using Spheros as a tangible item (notification of call and accepting a call).
- Updated UI, including icon showing TangibleAPI status.
To use the Sifteos or the Spheros in this release, you have download new binaries, otherwise the procedure is similar:
- Install Siftdev. This is a developer version of the normal Siftrunner application.
- Make sure Java is installed.
- Install Mono. If your Mono version is not 2.10.9, then you first have to edit run_SiftDriver.bat and update the path.
- Download and extract Tangible-Release2.zip.
- If you intend to use Sifteos, plug in the Sifteo Link. If you intend to use a Sphero, plug in a bluetooth dongle.
- Open run_all.bat. This will run all the other bat files.
- Connect at least three Sifteos in Siftdev.
- Load the app in Siftdev. Menu: Developer -> Load Apps -> select Sifteo directory. Then press Play.
- If you use a Sphero, Windows will open a prompt asking you to pair the Sphero with your computer. If it is asking you for a PIN, enter 1234. You will only need to do this once per Sphero.
- Your tangible devices should now work. If you are having trouble, add a comment and we will try to assist.
To enable the shared workspace:
- Set up a projector and web camera, in the roof, pointing down on a table.
- It is recommended that you cover your workspace with white papers.
- Select the correct camera and allow the video stream.
- Press "Enter fullscreen" to start calibrating the workspace.
- Print out or draw left marker and right marker on two separate papers. These will be used to move (left marker) and resize (right marker) the share workspace by moving them around on the table in front of your camera. If you are using Sifteos, these QR-codes will appear on two of your cubes when calibrating, so you will not need to print out the papers.
- Put your hand over the virtual button "Done" to finish calibration.
The quality of your projector and your camera will determine how detailed the shared workspace will be. Also, you have to experiment with the distance of both the projector and the camera. Your mileage may vary.
